We realy liked The individual quirkiness, we stayed in the quadruple room with a balcony at the front overlooking the cathedral square. Tiny spiral staircase up to the second level, comfortable beds and spotlessly clean. The items scattered throughout the hotel give it a great interesting feeling and ambiance. The location is fantastic literally in the heart of the city. There is a nice roof terrace and we enjoyed breakfast, my son had a full breakfast English style, my wife and I had toasted.
all reviews » Location, Location, Location, but it does come at a price. The Cathedral bells, but after the first night you begin to not hear them anymore. The rooms were comfortable, each individually decorated, so some thought has gone into the hotel. If you like bland, boring plain hotels then you wont like this. The service was excellent. you have to check in at the restaurant counter, and when we arrived on a Friday lunchtime, the restaurant was very busy. I thought we would not get looked after, but th. I absolutely loved this place. First of all, the room was so quaint and felt like home. It was spacious and clean and had a rustic feel/look to it. What was even more amazing was the owner himself, Luciano. He took care of me personally, let me print my boarding pass in the office, helped me with questions I had. It was such an amazing experience with the best of hospitality I could have imagined. I cannot emphasize enough what a wonderful experience this was, especially because of the manageme. The room we stayed is was 2 levels, as I think all the room were. Upstairs was the bathroom and 2nd bedroom, accessed by a spiral staircase. Downstaues was a karge comefortable bed. The room beautifully decorated in an old style with some antique pieces. Breakfast is the cafe below was fantastic. Location was perfect, other reviews complained about the bells of the cathedreal which ring every 15 mins.(the cathedral is located across the square from the hotel) this did not bother us..we wore ear. I cannot fault this guest house, which offered a 5 star service to us. The staff were very friendly and we were on first name terms with many of them, so much so that were forgot at times that we were paying guests. The service given to us was fabulous, the food excellent, and the room was very clean & tidy. At the end of our stay Joseph the manager obtained early morning help with the luggage down the stairs as we needed to be out by 5.30am to get to Luqa airport. . This hotel is in a perfect location in the centre of the city. My room was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The terrace on the roof of the building gives spectacular views of the city and the Grand Harbour. Luciano's Restaurant is wonderful, especially on those evenings when it is calm and warm and you can dine outdoors. The hotel and restaurant have a convivial atmosphere and the staff are friendly and attentive. The location is excellent - it is within an easy walk of the bus station. We spent one evening and enjoyed a great meal in the attached restaurant in the square in front of the cathedral. The staff were incredibly friendly and arranged breakfast for us half an hour before the official breakfast time. The rooms and restaurant are full of old photos and memorabilia from Malta's recent past. The wifi worked well. I LOVED the traditional style of the rooms and hallways, it was beautifully decorated and warm and inviting with lots of little 'nik-naks' around which were interesting. It was also the perfect location for staying in Valletta as just on the square where the main cathedral is which was great for me as a woman on my own. Definitely would recommend it!. The location was excellent - very central. The accomodation was roomy - we had a duplex(2 storey) room that was excellent as it gave our 16 year old daughter her "own space" Excellent value for money Breakfast was good (see other comment) & excellent service. One could order anything from the cafe menu. The guesthouse had a great ambience and very friendly staff, especially Kelly who really looked after me as I was a bit unwell. The location is fantastic. I had a back room so could only faintly hear the bells. The breakfast which could be taken outside in the shadow of the Co-Cathedral was excellent. The bells, boy are they loud and as others harvesting every 15 minutes. I was prepared for them and wouldn't want it any other way but be prepared they will keep you awake. Other than that a perfect place to stay. nothing. Nothing!. The bathroom was on the 2nd floor and it was a little of a nuisance walking up the spiral staircase at night to go to the toilet but we got used to it.If there was a negative that might put people off staying here it is the sound of the St John's Cathedral bells which chime regularly. We had the courtyard room, and were unaffected by this. It should also be pointed out that once the restaurant closes you will need to climb a few flights of stairs to your room, as you enter the guest house through the side entrance. This was not really a problem to us though, but may be to older or more infirm customers. . My room didn't have a window, which I knew would be the case when I made the booking. While I would certainly stay in this excellent hotel again, I would pay extra to have a room with a window next time. Our room (number 36) had no outside light. We had a window opening on to an enclosed central courtyard - so not great privacy. It also meant that even in April we had to have the fans on all night to stay cool. The hotel is disguised as a cafe (with a different name) so was hard to find and they should explain this when you book. The staff in the cafe (who cover both maybe??) where not particularly friendly or helpful but it didn't bother me, although it may bother other people. The breakfast taken in the cafe owned by Luciano. Choice was good but lacked variety - perhaps more healthy options could be made available ? Although in fairness I did not ask !!r. Having to climb the stairs when the restaurant was closed and the lift wasn't operating. I am using a walking stick so this may not be a problem for others.
